Message From Our Vice President

As the healthcare landscape has evolved and inpatient hospital stays have continued to grow shorter, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital’s outpatient locations have seen a significant increase in the need for their services. In 2019, Burke had almost 145,000 outpatient visits.

In recent years Burke has continued to expand its outpatient footprint, reaching more patients throughout the Hudson Valley than ever before. Burke operates nine outpatient locations: Armonk, two in the Bronx, Mamaroneck, Purchase, the main campus in White Plains, Somers, and two in Yonkers. We are currently in the new construction phase on an additional outpatient location on Taxter Road in Elmsford to continue to help address the constantly increasing community demand for quality outpatient therapy services.

As a member of the Montefiore Health System, we partner with other system hospitals to provide the vital continuum of care patients require. We partner with White Plains Hospital to provide management services to their outpatient therapy practice in White Plains, and operate a partnered outpatient physical therapy facility at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. In addition, we recently helped Montefiore Nyack Hospital launch their outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation center.

In conjunction with Montefiore, in 2020 we will open our brand new physician practice space in the Billings building of our main campus to help address the growing need for follow up care and treatment from Board-certified rehabilitation specialists. This expanded space will allow us to see more patients than we do in our current space, and provide space for more diagnostic testing and innovative treatments for former inpatients as well as members of the community.

Our individually tailored outpatient programs complement the acute, intensive inpatient experience at Burke. We want to help each patient achieve their personal goals and reach their full potential. Expertise in rehabilitation medicine for patients of all types has long been a trademark of Burke. We provide care for patients ranging in age from young school athletes to older adults, with physical disabilities resulting from orthopedic and sports injuries, stroke, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions, cardiac disease, chronic pulmonary disease, arthritis and amputation, just to name a few.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit the Hudson valley hard in March, healthcare providers have adapted their care delivery to provide it in the safest way possible. While all of Burke’s outpatient locations, including cardiac rehabilitation, are reopened and accepting patients, each site’s capacity is limited due to social distancing and infection control procedures. We are working diligently to provide the renowned care that Burke is known for, while keeping our patients and our staff members safe. We are happy to welcome our patients back and help them continue their recovery.

All of our outpatient locations are community centered, and you may have seen our staff participate in local events throughout Westchester. We will continue to educate the public and partner with local organizations to promote healthy behaviors and make ourselves an available resource.

We are proud to be part of the continuum of care offered at Burke. Thank you for your support and for helping us build and maintain a solid foundation in the community over the years. We look forward to continuing to enhance the lives of our patients for many years to come.
