Benefits of Cancer-Related Lymphedema Rehabilitation
Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid that causes tissues in the body, such as the legs, arms, neck and face, to swell. It can be chronic or develop after cancer treatment or surgery.
There is no cure for lymphedema, but rehabilitation can:
- Improve function and ability to carry out everyday activities
- Provide individualized education and home program
- Recommend appropriate use of compression garments
- Reduce pain
- Reduce swelling
What to Expect
Receive a comprehensive care plan, customized specifically to your needs. Using a Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) approach, your certified lymphedema therapist will do a full assessment. They will also address any other orthopedic or musculoskeletal issues you may be experiencing.
Treatment may include:
- A customized exercise program
- Compression garment recommendations
- Lymphedema education
- Manual lymphatic drainage
- Multi-layered compression bandaging
