Hemodialysis

Patient in bed and physician looking at him

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is the first and only free-standing inpatient rehabilitation hospital in New York State with on-site hemodialysis (HD). Before, post-acute patients with kidney and late-stage renal disease were admitted to a lower level of care for their rehabilitation needs, or they had to travel to a third-party facility for the blood-filtering procedure and so were unable to be admitted to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Now patients can benefit from Burke’s top-ranked rehabilitative care, stay in single setting for continuous care, and achieve faster recovery times.

On-site hemodialysis at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is provided by Fresenius, one of the largest providers of kidney care services in the nation.

Eligibility

• Burke accepts established or new to HD patients with rehabilitation therapy needs following an acute hospital stay, illness, or injury.

• Only HD patients with AV fistula or AV graft or tunneled permanent catheter.
