What is a CT Scan

A CT scan, also known as a CAT scan or a computerized tomogram, is a diagnostic imaging procedure that combines x-ray technology with computer processing to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.

Benefits of a CT Scan

A CT Scan allows:

  • Your care team to see more detail than a regular x-ray
  • The generation of cross-sectional images or “slices” that provide a three-dimensional view of the body
  • A non-invasive experience using a low amount of radiation
  • A more comfortable option compared to MRI, since CT Scanners are more open

The CT Scanner at Burke is wheelchair accessible and supports patients with cognitive, neurologic or mobility needs. Transfer assistance is also available.
