FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
White Plains, NY – April 7, 2015 – Burke Rehabilitation Center is hosting its annual Heels & Wheels 5k Road Race and Walk on May 3, 2015. The event is open to all, enabling walkers, runners and wheelchair athletes to compete together in a fun and exciting race.
The race starts and ends on Burke’s campus on Mamaroneck Ave. in White Plains and features 8 classes, with first, second and third place winners awarded in categories including: male and female runners, male and female racing chair and male and female hand cycle.
In addition to the 5K there will be a Kids Fun Run following the race. The Fun Run is open to children between the ages of 4 and 12, with a 100-yard dash, quarter-mile run and a half-mile run, depending on the age group.
Registration for both events begins at 7:30 a.m., with the 5K starting at 9 a.m. and the Kids Fun Run at 10:30 a.m. The fee for adults is $25 in advance (before 4/26) and $30 on race day. For kids under age 15, the fee is $10 in advance and $15 on race day. Kids ages 4 and under are free. The registration fee includes an event t-shirt and numbered bib. Proceeds benefit Burke Rehabilitation Center’s work providing quality rehabilitative care for patients regardless of their ability to pay.
The event is open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on the runners. Volunteers are also needed to help out at the event, in areas including: registration, bib/t-shirt handout, water station, traffic guide, after-race refreshments and more, with volunteers eligible to receive community service hours.
“The Heels & Wheels 5K Road Race and Walk brings together athletes, families and
community members of all ability levels to the Burke campus to take part in a great event. It also continues Burke’s mission of inclusion for all those who wish to participate in athletic events,” says Richard Sgaglio, Ph.D., Director of Marketing and External Relations.
