Burke is pleased to announce its new partnership with the Westchester Tai Chi Center (WTTC), which will continue the long tradition of high quality, comprehensive Tai Chi training at Burke. Under the direction of Lisa Rawson, WTCC will continue to provide existing programs and is developing new ones as well. These classes take place at the Burke Sports Center, located on Burke’s White Plains campus.
The Tai Chi for balance program has multiple levels. It provides both beginner classes and advanced ones for those who want a greater challenge. The program also offers a seated, therapeutic class designed specifically for those with acute balance concerns who are recovering from injuries or surgery or managing conditions such as Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, or stroke recovery.
The traditional Tai Chi program offers mixed-level classes in Yang Style Tai Chi and classes designed especially for beginners. For those interested in expanding their training, WTCC also offers classes in Meditation and Qigong, Dao Yin (sometimes referred to as Daoist Yoga), and Tai Chi Stick (the first taught of the traditional Tai Chi weapons).
All of the instructors at WTCC are highly qualified and have extensive teaching experience. Lisa Rawson is certified through the American Tai Chi and Qigong Association. We are very excited about our new collaboration with WTCC and welcome Lisa and her staff as part of the Burke family.
The classes are offered as part of Burke’s Community Wellness Programs and are open to both members and non-members of the Burke Adult Fitness Center. (Fitness Center members receive 10% off Tai Chi classes.)
