You’ve heard of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. But what about a day that’s less about shopping—and more about giving back? That’s where Giving Tuesday comes in.
This global day of giving is set aside each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to remind people of the power in giving back, especially in your own community. Last year, the movement raised $116 million for organizations in over 70 countries.
Burke was founded on a mission of giving back. Burke began thanks to the generosity and foresight of our benefactor, New York philanthropist John Masterson Burke. At the turn of the 20th century, Mr. Burke bequeathed $4.5 million to begin the Burke story. He felt that the medical community was missing a much needed interim place where patients could convalesce after being discharged from the hospital.
Over a century since its founding, Burke’s mission of helping those who are recovering from a life-altering illness or injury has remained constant. Every day, Burke’s physicians, therapists, nurses and staff work tirelessly to make sure Burke is a place where great things happen—but we can’t do it alone.
As a nonprofit, Burke relies on the generosity of donors, volunteers, foundations and corporations. Your investment in Burke will enable us to help thousands of patients regain their health and rebuild their lives each year.
Your support of Burke will go towards providing the most effective rehabilitation and clinical research aimed at reducing disabilities in areas such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, dementia and other neurological conditions—and allow Burke to continue to fulfill its century-long mission to help patients make their fullest possible recovery from illness or injury.
As we embark on Giving Tuesday and the season of giving, please consider making Burke a partner in your efforts.
