Volunteer for Burke’s Annual Wheelchair Games

Published August 6, 2014

Each year, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital hosts the Wheelchair Games, bringing wheelchair athletes to this very special competition. Burke’s Wheelchair Games—which takes place on September 20 this year— gives those with physical impairments an opportunity to stay fit, enjoy sports, and compete.

At the event, wheelchair athletes participate in separate divisions for Futures (six years of age and younger), Juniors (ages seven to 21) and Adults. There are a variety of activities, including table tennis, a slalom obstacle course, javelin, shot put, discus, club throw, softball throw, and 60, 100, 400, 800 and 1,500-meter races.

And we need your help!

The Wheelchair Games is produced entirely by volunteers. Both Burke employees and people from the community come together at the event to help with everything from registration to food distribution to assisting the athletes. Volunteers can be from civic groups, schools, religious organizations and other associations—or simply on an individual basis. The success of the Wheelchair Games would not be possible without the help of volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer at this worthwhile event, please complete this volunteer registration form and return it by Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 to Michael Ragnetti, via fax at (914) 798-4183.

All volunteers receive a free t-shirt and lunch. Children volunteers must be 12 years old or older.
