Admissions

Planning Your Admission

The admissions process includes an assessment of the medical, clinical and psychosocial needs of each patient to determine the appropriateness of acute physical rehabilitation. Not all patients will be suited for this intensive rehabilitation program. A patient’s functional level is an important variable in this process. Some patients may be too low level while others may be too high functioning. Therefore each patient is screened by a medical professional.

The initial assessment process may be completed by phone or on-site visit by a Burke Rehabilitation Hospital nurse screener, who is also a registered nurse. Burke has nurse screeners that visit area hospitals and can begin the screening and admitting process while a patient is still in an acute care hospital. By doing so, patients can be transferred directly to Burke when medically stable and appropriate for inpatient acute rehabilitation.

When an admission has been approved by your insurance company and Burke, our Screening and Admitting departments will work with your referring facility to arrange transportation and to assist you in completing the appropriate paperwork for admission.

For additional information on admissions, please call Burke's Screening Department at (914) 597-2519.

New Patient Visitation Policy Visiting hours 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. One visitor at a time. Two visitors per day.

What's Happening at Burke

Thank you to everyone for making the Burke Award special!

The celebration of the 25th Burke Award Dinner was held on Thursday, September 23, 2021.

This year’s event was extra special as we saluted and honored our Burke Healthcare Heroes who have worked tirelessly treating survivors of COVID-19, as well as traditional rehabilitation patients.

Our staff are truly heroes for the passion, dedication and professionalism they demonstrate every day, especially in the face of this unprecedented challenge. Their efforts have never wavered, and they should be recognized and applauded.

There’s still time to make a donation in support of our Healthcare Heroes.
