Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Elective

Program Overview
As a medical student at Burke Rehabilitation, you can participate in a 4-week elective experience with other 4th-year medical students from U.S. accredited medical schools in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). The PM&R Elective provides exposure to inpatient and outpatient physiatry of a varied patient population. The course is designed to allow students the opportunity to actively engage in patient care and clinical learning experiences under the guidance of faculty members and resident physicians.
Goals/Expectations:
Students will gain exposure to the following areas of PM&R:
- Musculoskeletal Care
- Neurorehabilitation
- Pain Medicine
- Prosthetics and orthotics
Students will observe and participate in the following procedures common to PM&R:
- Peripheral joint injections
- Trigger point injections
- Electromyography
- Spasticity management
- Ultrasound procedure
