Burke Rehabilitation Hospital Receives Accreditation for Brain Injury Medicine and Sports Medicine Fellowships

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital continues to build upon its reputation as an academic leader with the recent addition of fellowships in Brain Injury Medicine and Sports Medicine. The two fellowships were granted initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in January.

Burke will host two fellows for each program over the span of one year. During their time, fellows will rotate at Burke’s main campus in White Plains and other institutions affiliated with Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Montefiore Health System, allowing broad exposure to the spectrum of care for patients with a wide range of conditions in both disciplines.

“Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is committed to training the next generation of physicians who strive for excellence in rehabilitation medicine,” said Burke Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Mooyeon Oh-Park, MD, MS. “These fellowships help open the next chapter of our educational mission and enable us to thrive as an academic rehabilitation center dedicated to exceptional patient care, education, and research.”

Karen Morice, MD, who is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Sports Medicine, will serve as the director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship, while Erika Trovato, DO, MS, board certified in Brain Injury Medicine and PM&R, will be the director of the Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship. Both physicians bring a track record of clinical excellence as well as a national reputation as educators and mentors.

Burke expects the first group of fellows to join the Burke graduate medical education programs in July 2020. Physicians who are interested in applying can do so by sending a CV to braininjuryfellow@burke.org for the Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship or to sportsfellow@burke.org for the Sports Medicine Fellowship.
