September 5, 2018

Are you or someone you know is a wheelchair athlete looking to participate in athletic events in a supportive and inclusive environment? There’s still time to sign up for Burke Rehabilitation Hospital’s 39th Annual Wheelchair Games that will be held on Burke’s beautiful White Plains Campus on Saturday, September 22nd.

The Wheelchair Games is open to athletes of all ages and ability levels. This year’s Games will include a variety of track, field, table tennis and basketball events and more. Participants will be organized into divisions based on age and ability.

“The Wheelchair Games gives athletes of all abilities the opportunity to compete in events they otherwise might not have access to,” Burke Vice President of Marketing, Communications & Development Richard Sgaglio said. “The Games also provide an inclusive and supportive environment where the spirit of comradery thrives. The Burke family is honored to have produced the Wheelchair Games for nearly four decades.”

Field and table tennis events will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the basketball free throw competition at 11 a.m. and track events beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Awards for morning events will be presented during lunch and track awards will be presented at the end of the day. Spectator admission is free and community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on the athletes. Carnival games, silent auctions and chance raffles for families will be available and area radio stations will broadcast live from the games throughout the day.

Registration is $25 for each athlete and includes lunch. Click here to download a registration packet. Deadline for registration is Friday September 14th.

Please call (914) 597-2850 if you have any questions about the Games. If you have questions about classification and/or the athletic events, please contact Ralph Armento, meet director, at ralph461@msn.com or at (732) 266-2634.
