Now that you’ve eaten your fill of turkey on Thanksgiving and scored a great deal on Black Friday, consider taking part in a day that’s all about giving back: Giving Tuesday.
This worldwide event is held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving -- that's TOMORROW! -- to remind people of the power in giving back, especially in your own community. Last year, the movement raised $177 million for organizations in over 98 countries.
Burke itself was founded on a mission of giving back. Through the generosity and foresight of our benefactor, New York philanthropist John Masterson Burke—who bequeathed $4.5 million—Burke was able to open its doors at the turn of the 20th century and begin its 100-plus year story.
Mr. Burke felt that the medical community was missing a much needed interim place where patients could convalesce after being discharged from the hospital. And now, over a century since its founding, Burke’s mission of helping those who are recovering from a life-altering illness or injury has remained constant. Every day, Burke’s physicians, therapists, nurses and staff work tirelessly to make sure Burke is a place where great things happen—but we can’t do it alone.
As a nonprofit, Burke relies on the generosity of donors, volunteers, foundations and corporations. Your investment in Burke will enable us to help thousands of patients regain their health and rebuild their lives each year.
Your support will go towards providing the most effective rehabilitation and clinical research aimed at reducing disabilities in areas such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, dementia and other neurological conditions.
As we embark on Giving Tuesday and the season of giving, please consider making Burke a partner in your efforts.
