Did you know: someone in the U.S. has a stroke every 40 seconds? While that’s a sobering statistic, there is some good news: About 80% of strokes are preventable, according to the American Stroke Association.
Burke aims to educate the community on stroke prevention and staying healthy. But it's important to know what stroke is--and the signs to watch for in case someone you love is having a stroke. Here's a must-know overview:
In honor of Stroke Awareness Month in May, Burke is offering a free blood pressure screening to the community. It will be taking place in the Wood Lobby of Burke’s main hospital building (Building #7) on the White Plains campus on May 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There, you’ll be able to have your blood pressure checked and speak with representatives from Burke’s stroke program on ways to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy.
