Support Group Spotlight: Multiple Sclerosis

March 22, 2016

Did you know? March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month

Here at Burke, we not only treat patients with a diagnosis of MS in our neurological program, but former patients and members of the community are welcome to join the MS support group, which meets monthly at Burke’s White Plains campus.

This free group is professionally-led by a certified health coach and focuses on topics such as nutrition and healthy living options for those living with MS. The group offers an opportunity for participants to openly share personal experiences and coping strategies with others who may be experiencing similar life situations.

There are many benefits to joining a support group, including feeling less isolated, giving you a sense of empowerment, improved coping skills and a reduction in stress and anxiety, as well as a better understanding of what to expect from your situation.

The MS group meets monthly, typically the 1st Thursday of the month, from 12:30 – 2:00 pm in the Billings building, Building #4, in the second floor classroom, B 204.

To register call the NYC-SNY Chapter of the National MS Society at 1-800-344-4867 and choose option 1, or visit www.MSnyc.org and search for groups and discussions.
