"John's Story"

patient on recumbannt bike

I see the twinkle in their eyes and smiles on their faces, from nurses to administrators. I wouldnt recommend another place. The therapists are passionate about their jobs.

Patient John describes his experience at Burke Rehabilitation as life changing. The 45-year-oldcouldnt walk or even raise his hands when he arrived here and before returning home, John was playing basketball and riding a recumbent bicycle as part of his therapy. Last summer, he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called CIDP, a subvariant of Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

After spending more than a month at White Plains Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center, he started his rehabilitation journey at Burke. After a few weeks he started walking independently. It was incredible. I thought it was a dream. It felt phenomenal to be on my own.

John is a foreman for his towns Water Department and is the father of three young children. When he was discharged, he said he looked forward to getting back to his regular routine and attending baseball games with his family.
