Alexandra Oudheusden is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and a Registered Yoga Teacher. Currently the Director of Therapeutic Recreation, Alexandra works closely with Burke’s in-patient programs and local population to deliver person-centered care and community-based programming that empowers individuals with disabilities to have the highest quality of life through positive leisure choices. By using a holistic perspective and finding a unique pathway for each individual, she is able to meet the needs of a wide-range of participants. Alexandra received her BA in Theater Arts from Pennsylvania State University. She earned her MS degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Southern Connecticut State University.
Deirdre Otto is an energetic and creative Recreation Therapist of 27 years who has “recreated” herself to utilize her hands on talent in the treatment of rehab patients through energy work and massage therapy. Her mission has become assisting patients thru their healing process. Her specialties include stress management and pain reduction. Deirdre is a Temple University graduate and LMT graduate of Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, licensed in both NY and CT.
Janelle Krantz is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist who received her BS in Therapeutic Recreation and minor in Adapted Physical Activity from Slippery Rock University in western Pennsylvania. She has experience working with adapted therapeutic riding/sports programs for youth and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. As a Recreation Therapist at Burke, Janelle is works with the Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury program leading Get Ahead cognitive stimulation group, HIGH (Humor Is Good for Health) humor therapy group, and Health and Wellness Education. Janelle believes in sharing a positive attitude with others and has a passion for encouraging patients to develop a healthy leisure lifestyle. In her free time, Janelle enjoys playing sports, including tennis and softball and is enthusiastic about volunteering with Burke’s adaptive sports programs.
