Burke Rehabilitation Hospital has been in the forefront in the conversion from paper charts to electronic medical records over the past several years. Burke converted to a complete paperless patient record system in 2007. Burke is the first post acute care hospital in the United States to reach Stage 6 designation for the conversion. The Stage 6 designation is bestowed by the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society Analytics (HIMSS).  The Stage 6 designation requires that hospitals “have made significant executive commitments and investments to reach this stage, and recognize the strategic value of improving patient care with the electronic medical record.”
