Burke has a variety of programs, policies and procedures in place to make your stay with us as safe, productive and enjoyable as possible. Here is a list of items you and your family should be aware of when coming to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. These include information about safety and security, accommodations, visiting hours and other available services.
Safety and Security
Legal and safety requirements dictate that you may not use personal electrical appliances in the hospital until they have been inspected and cleared by the Engineering Department.
No animals are permitted inside the hospital except for guide dogs and service dogs.
Some people are more at risk for falls and injury. Your current condition may cause you to be susceptible to falls. The hospital has a falls-reduction program and a variety of devices that assist us in keeping you safe.
It is recommended that you keep money and valuables at home and just bring a small amount of cash for newspapers, the coffee or gift shop or vending machines. Valuables can be deposited in the cashier’s office.
Interpretation services are available to all patients with limited English proficiency. Telecommunications devices (TDDs), television decoders, and hearing amplification devices are available upon request.
Food and Nutrition
Since diet is an important part of your therapy, your physician may prescribe a special or modified diet. Special dietary requests are available upon request.
Your room assignment is based upon your admitting diagnosis. Accommodations are available as a single (private) or double room. Private rooms require an additional charge per day that is not usually covered by insurance. If you are placed in a private room at the hospital’s convenience, there is no surcharge; you may be moved to a double room when one is available.
Burke offers a great selection of popular channels, including 24-hour access to a lineup of expanded television programming. This service is provided by an outside rental company. Patients can access these channels by renting TV service from their room phones. There are also special television channels available at no charge and include patient education and the C.A.R.E. channel that features nature imagery and soothing music.
The Therapeutic Recreation Department coordinates activities each week for the entertainment and enjoyment of all patients. A weekly recreation schedule is delivered to your room each week. Friends and family members are invited to participate in the activities.
