Volunteering Opportunities

Are you a kind and compassionate person? Would you like to be part of the reason Burke is such a wonderful place? Volunteers are needed for many different projects. Your skills and talents could be exactly what we need! Your help is greatly appreciated.

Adult volunteers typically commit to three hours, one day a week. Teenage volunteers are asked to make a commitment of 40 hours during a six-month period. Teenage volunteers are also required to have their working papers. (The minimum age to volunteer is 14.)

Volunteer Opportunities:
•    Friendly Visiting: listening and talking with patients who might need company and assisting with feeding
•    Horticultural Therapy: assisting therapists working with patients in the Greenhouse
•    Nursing: assisting nurses on the unit in non-Nursing assignments
•    Therapeutic Recreation: helping with varied recreational activities during patients’ leisure hours
•    Religious Services: transporting patients to services and assisting chaplains as needed
•    Gift Shop: assisting patients, staff and visitors with their purchases
•    Information Desk: greeting visitors and new patients; answering queries concerning the hospital, and directing visitors; delivering flowers, newspapers and packages to patients
•    Patients’ Library: assisting patients and staff in the selection, borrowing and returning of books.
•    Clerical Assistant: assisting in various departments of the hospital with clerical projects.
