AWARDED THREE YEAR CARF ACCREDITATION
White Plains, NY—August 17, 2009: CARF International announced that The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital has been accredited for a period of three years for the following programs:
- Inpatient rehabilitation programs for adults
- Inpatient rehabilitation programs for children & adolescents
- Brain Injury Program--adults
- Brain Injury Program-- children and adolescents
- Spinal Cord system of care
- Stroke Specialty Program
- Outpatient medical rehabilitation programs-multiple service: Spinal Cord System
This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows Burke’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. The three year accreditation comes after a rigorous review peer process where Burke demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable and accountable.
Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is a not-for-profit acute medical rehabilitation hospital.
Burke specializes in helping individuals regain a maximum level of mobility and independence following a disabling illness or injury including stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders, cardiac disease, chronic pulmonary disease, arthritis, orthopedics and amputation. Burke has three major divisions: an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, an outpatient rehabilitation division, and the Winifred Masterson Burke Medical Research Institute.
CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now know as CARF, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focuses standards to help organization measure and improve the quality of their programs.
