Biographical Information:

Dylan Edwards received formal education in Western Australia, graduating with Honors in 1995 from Edith Cowan University (B.App.Sc, Exercise Physiology major). The research component of the program involved a brain mapping study of elite racquet players using transcranial magnetic stimulation, at the Australian Neuromuscular Research Institute. He worked until 1998 as a College Lecturer in Health Sciences, with sessional appointments at a major Western Australian teaching hospital (Technologist/clinical physiology), and the Western Australian Institute of Sport (physiological testing/exercise prescription). In pursuit of clinical education relating to human movement, Dylan studied Physiotherapy (B.Sc.), at Curtin University of Technology, and graduated with Honors in 2001. During this time he worked as a University Lecturer in Human Motor Control and Rehabilitation. In 2004, Dylan completed his PhD (Clinical Neurophysiology) in the Medical Faculty of The University of Western Australia, at the Centre for Neuromuscular and Neurological Disorders. The focus of these studies was investigations of human sensory-motor interactions using non-invasive brain stimulation. He maintained concurrent academic and clinical positions during the period of candidature, and upon completion was awarded a University Fellowship and academic tenure. Between 2005 and 2007, he held positions as Research Fellow at the Movement Disorders Clinic of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and Senior Lecturer in Human Motor Control and Neuroscience, at Edith Cowan University. During 2007, Dylan was a visiting scientist at Harvard Medical School in Boston, and orchestrated a collaborative effort between Harvard University, MIT and The Burke Medical Research Institute, to investigate combining Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation and Robotic Movement Therapy in chronic stroke patients.

Dylan has clinical practice experience with a range of neuromuscular conditions in private and hospital settings, over 10 years tertiary lecturing experience including post-graduate research supervision, senior academic administrative experience, and has been an invited consultant in South-East Asia and Europe. He has attracted Industry and Government competitive grants, publishes in peer-reviewed journals relating to human motor control, and is a reviewer and editor for international neuroscience journals. Dylan maintains an academic visiting position at Harvard Medical School, and is Co-Director and Lecturer in the Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation Intensive Course. He maintains an Honorary Research affiliation at the Centre for Neuromuscular and Neurological Disorders in Western Australia. Dylan joined the Burke Medical Research Institute in 2008, as Principal Investigator, Director of Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation, and the Human Motor Control Laboratory.
