Planned Giving: Leaving a Legacy

The Winifred Masterson Burke Society recognizes those individuals who support Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in the same tradition as John Masterson Burke, whose generous bequest established the Hospital in 1915. Today, John Masterson Burke’s gift in memory of his mother continues to generate funds that support Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and the Winifred Masterson Burke Medical Research Institute.

When you make a planned gift to the Burke Foundation through bequests, endowments, charitable trusts, insurance proceeds, and gift annuities, you ensure that both the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and Medical Research Institute continue far into the future. You and your family can also become part of the Society by investing in and supporting Burke guaranteeing its success for future generations.

Bequests are the simplest way to make a planned gift to Burke. If you are preparing or reviewing your will, remember to include a bequest to the Burke Foundation. There are numerous types of bequests you can include in your will, including a specific cash bequest, a specific property bequest, and/or a bequest of a percentage of your residuary estate. In addition, as a donor, you can direct that your bequest be used for the general purposes of the Hospital or Research Institute or for a specific, more limited purpose. Therefore, you should consult your attorney to discuss which type of bequest best suits your personal objectives.

For more information on joining the Winifred Masterson Burke Society or how to make gifts to the Winifred Masterson Burke Foundation, please call the Development Office at (914) 597-2348 or e-mail to giving@burke.org.
