Biographical Information:
Rajiv Ratan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Amherst College in 1981 receiving his B.A. in Neuroscience. In 1988 he received his M.D., and Ph.D (in Pharmacology) from New York University where he was awarded the John Woodruff Simpson Fellowship in Medicine from Amherst College (1981), was a National Institutes of Health-MSTP Fellow (1983-1988), and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (1988). After completing an Internship in Medicine (1988-1989) in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, Dr. Ratan joined The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was a Neurology Resident (1989-1991), and Chief Neurology Resident (1991-1992) in the Department of Neurology, and a Fellow in Rehabilitation (1992-1994) in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Department of Neuroscience. At Johns Hopkins he was honored with the Jay Slotkin Award for Excellence in Research (1992) and the Passano Foundation Clinician Scientist Award (1994). From 1994 to 1996 Dr. Ratan was an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 1996 Dr. Ratan joined the staff of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Hospital as an Assistant Professor (1996-2000) and later an Associate Professor (2000-2004) in the Department of Neurology. In 2003 Dr. Ratan became the Director of the Burke/Cornell Medical Research Institute. In 2004 Dr Ratan was appointed Burke Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience and Rehab Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Ratan is a member of the Board of Directors of both The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and the The Boston ALS Therapy Alliance. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of The Boston Cure Project. Dr. Ratan is on the Editorial Boards of Antioxidants and Redox Signaling, NeuroRx, and The Journal of Neuroscience. Dr. Ratan served as an ad hoc reviewer for the Neurology “A” Study Section at NIH (1994-1997) and in 1998 was made a permanent member of the MDCN 2 Study Section, of which he is now Chairman.
