Individual, goal oriented...
The goal of the intensive rehabilitation program at Burke is to help patients return to as active and productive a life as possible despite physical disability.
Therapy stresses independence and proficiency in three areas: Mobility/dexterity, communication, and activities of daily living.
Group discussions and individual counseling sessions help the patient and family adjust to altered circumstances resulting from physical disability, and prepare for a new way of life.
Each patient's program is tailored to meet individual needs by integrating several different disciplines. These include physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and recreation therapy, specialty medicine, nursing, case management, social work, speech and language therapy and audiology, as well as other specialty services when appropriate.
The majority of patients return to their homes or communities after discharge.
