Published June 2, 2015

The Business Council of Westchester has chosen its 2015 Rising Stars and David Putrino, PT, Ph.D, Director of Telemedicine and Virtual Rehabilitation at Burke, has been named to the annual 40 under 40 list. The honorees “exemplify leadership, foresight and vision for the future of Westchester County.”

Dr. Putrino’s research focuses on designing, developing, and deploying a comprehensive telemedicine service at Burke. Telemedicine is an emerging approach to healthcare that allows therapists, assisted by innovative technology, to deliver engaging and high-intensity therapy in the home at low cost to the patient. He uses state-of-the-art motion capture technology that allows therapists to monitor the quality and quantity of rehabilitation that is being performed at home and in the clinic in unprecedented detail.

In addition, Dr. Putrino is a co-founder of GesTherapy, a telerehabilitation software company that generates accessible rehabilitation solutions for patients suffering from a variety of neuromuscular disorders. He also is the chief technology officer for Not Impossible Labs, a group that crowd-sources accessible technological solutions for high-impact humanitarian problems.

Dr. Putrino is a physical therapist and completed his Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Western Australia. He has worked as a clinician in the US, UK and Australia, studied computational neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and MIT, and designed prostheses for Brain Machine Interface devices at New York University.

An awards ceremony and cocktail reception will be held on June 11 in Rye Brook in recognition of the honorees. For more information, visit westchesterny.org. Learn more about Dr. Putrino’s research.
