Thanks to the generosity of our community, Burke Rehabilitation Center has closed out 2013 on a successful and positive note. Many of us take for granted the ability to keep warm and have not experienced some of the hardships that many in our community face each winter. For this reason, Burke once again sponsored a food and coat drive that took place Nov. 18 through Dec. 27, 2013.
During the drive, community members donated 300 pounds of food and 245 coats. The food is now being distributed through the Food Bank for Westchester and the coats are now being given out by the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless. Both organizations are uniquely positioned to ensure the donations go to those in our community who need assistance.
“This food and coat collection encouraged Burke employees and community members to join forces to help those who have fallen on hard times,” said Annette Bucci, senior administrator for Human Resources at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and coordinator of the drive. “This has been a wonderful way to directly assist those struggling in our immediate community.”
