The Fitness Center at Burke is hosting a Free Tai Chi workshop for people in wheelchairs, followed by a Free five-week wheelchair Tai Chi program.
Typically done standing, the seated Tai Chi program enables people who use wheelchairs to try this gentle exercise that can increase energy, endurance and flexibility, as well as help reduce chronic pain and blood pressure. Tai Chi done in a chair also is good for increasing range of motion and strengthening arm muscles, stomach muscles and the respiratory system.
The workshop will be held at the Burke Sports Center at 785 Mamaroneck Ave. in White Plains. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Sifu Gene Nelson at (914) 803-2632 or info@EmpireTaiChi.com.
After the workshop, you can also continue on with the free five-week seated Tai Chi program beginning Nov. 1. It will be held every Thursday from 3 to 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29 and Dec. 6 at the Burke Sports Center.
