***Special Guest at January 2014 Meeting***
The Young Onset Parkinson’s Group will have a special guest speaker at its January 2014 meeting. Susan Wortman-Jutt, one of the therapists in Burke's Outpatient Speech-Language Pathology Department, will be giving a talk titled, "Voice and Speech Changes in Parkinson's Disease - Problems & Solutions."
Her presentation will cover typical changes in voice and speech as the disease progresses; the impact on the individual and family; evidenced-based treatment including the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Program for Parkinson's disease; conflicting research data on effectiveness of deep brain stimulation; and ways family and friends can make communication easier.
For more information about outpatient speech therapy, please contact (914) 597-2288. For information about the support group, visit theYoung Onset Parkinson's Group page or attend the next meeting.
Whatever medical condition you or a family member may be facing, its nice to know that you don't have to go at it alone.
We encourage you to take advantage of one of the many support groups offered by Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.
Sometimes just talking about things with others who understand has immeasurable benefits.
