Hope through Rehabilitation & Research
In Recognition of National Physical Therapy month, The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital sponsored an equipment drive at its main campus and satellite centers. The drive took place from Oct. 15 - 31, 2011.
Items such as canes, crutches, walkers, braces, and manual wheelchairs were collected, cleaned and processed. The equipment is now being distributed through Burke’s free exchange program for patients in need and through AmeriCares, a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medical aid to people in need across the United States and around the world.
The 2011 Burke Equipment Drive yielded:
- 107 walkers (40 standard, 62 rolling walkers, 5 three wheeled walkers)
- 218 crutches
- 69 canes (bent handle and straight)
- 10 Quad canes
- 13 wheelchairs
Thank you to all who participated in this worthwhile event.
